12' Vs 15'

Currently got a sealed 15' JBL sub but might swap to a 12' ported (JBL)
RMS are the same
What would be better? (hitting low notes and general loudness)

Re: 12' Vs 15'

i was once told that a decent ported box are louder than seal boxes, not sure weather its true or not.
The Handbrake Turn:
Produced when a driver engages the handbrake and turns the steering wheel in the direction of turn, resulting in a fast turn. Not overly used by boy racers due to its technical complexity.

Ported box will be louder if it's done right. Sealed generally gives you better SQ.

Re: 12' Vs 15'

which sort of JBL is it mate. 15's have a bigger surface area than the 12's so they will push more air out. the jbl gt5's for example: the 12" version is best in a 1.7- 2cu.ft ported box. the 15" version is best in a 3-3.5cu.ft ported box. upto you what you want to tune the port to. i recommend 33hz =]

also ported boxes are alot louder than sealed. =]

Re: 12' Vs 15'

Why not just port your 15? it will be louder than a 12 ported. but a 12 sealed with punch harder and tigher bass

ive gotta say heard of a seal box go over the 140db mark. the loudest sealed box in (((popper droppers))) tested last year was this guy:

Mamesh Varsani - 4x Hifonics 12" - Sealed Box - 2500wrms
Total Average (((Propper Droppers))) Score = 136.8dB

Peak= 138.3dB @ 42hz
40hz= 137.8dB
33hz= 136.6dB
25hz= 135.8dB
20hz= 135.5dB
147.5dB - dBDrag | 148.3dB peak / 146.7 average - (((Popper Droppers))) | 148.0dB peak / 145.9 average - (((Ground Pounders)))
